About Karina
Before being admitted as a guitar student at São Paulo State University, Karina Montenegro was a student of Everton Gloeden’s, who is a member of the Grammy Award-winning Brazilian Guitar Quartet. During the first years as an undergraduate student, she had the opportunity to have masterclasses with world-renowned guitarists such as David Russell and Johan Fostier, and was also a student of Luciano Morais’, Gisela Nogueira’s, and Giacomo Barroloni’s - all renowned Brazilian guitarists.
During her final years at University, Karina started her research in Early Music, and her undergraduate thesis was about how to accompany a soloist instrument - in this case, the Bass Viol - interpreting the Renaissance Composer Diego Ortiz's work Recercada Segunda. She performed with a Bass Viol-Guitar Duo and lectured about criteria used for the accompaniment, such as that which is found in the Trattado de Glosas, and what she gathered from interviews with Brazilian Early Music performers. Karina was awarded an Excellency Prize for this research.
She has also performed with both solo and several chamber music formations at the University's Theater and rooms, and after graduating was invited to perform with a Renaissance Recorder-Guitar Duo, another experiment interpreting Early Music pieces and accompanying Early Music instruments. She also had the opportunity of having guitar classes and masterclasses with the worldwide-renowned Brazilian guitarists Fabio Zanon and Paulo Bellinati.
Nowadays Karina continues her research in Early Music through her Guitar-Lute Duo. Furthermore, she is also a HyperPRO strings Endorser. HyperPRO is a Brazilian company that aims to offer quality guitar strings for a very competitive price.
